It’s hard to believe that it’s been two years since the release of Spock’s Brain, and I know what everyone must be thinking.

What the heck has Five Year Mission been doing with their time?  Shouldn’t Year 4 be out already?

The simple answer is “probably,” but every album is a unique creature and comes with it’s own unique set of challenges.  That’s not an excuse, mind you.  An excuse would be that we haven’t had a lot of time, or other things came up, or we had to go back and re-thing a song or two, or Mike fell off the stage and broke his pride.  No, what really happened is all of that (not the Mike thing. that’s just funny).  The point is, though, we’ve been hard at work on Year 4, and we’re really looking forward to putting it in your ear holes!

As of this writing, we have all of the drum tracks completed for all of the Year 4 songs, and we may even have a bonus or two.  A LOT of the other instrumentation is done too, and there’s really only a couple songs I can’t talk about.  What does that mean?  Let’s just say that Spock’s Brain (yes, another one) is a secret to all but Noah and Mike (you should be afraid), and Day of the Dove will need some special attention from all of us.  I’m SO tempted to throw out hints, but it just wouldn’t be as much fun if it wasn’t a surprise.  What I can tell you is that you’ll get to hear Patrick as you’ve never heard him before.  Even I was pleasantly surprised and impressed, so that’s something to look forward to!

We have the album set to be released at this year’s Starbase Indy Convention.  SBI has been our traditional release venue since the beginning, and after deciding that we weren’t going to make our goal of this summer, we decided it only made sense to bring it back home.  There WILL be a Kickstarter involved, as there has been for our last few albums, and we have a couple surprises cooked up for that as well.  More on that as we have more information, but look for it to happen in the fall.

If you’ve seen us recently, you’ve heard some samples from Year 4, and we still have a few shows lined up as we approach the release.  Check out our events section, come have a listen to what we’ve been up to, and get ready for the release of our sixth (SIXTH) album!
